And the rest...they say is history
It's been one year, you guys. One full year since I had a late night of debating back-and-forth with myself about whether or not starting up a wedding planning business would be do-able or not. But I like challenges - no, I challenge challenges. I am faced with one and rather than backing down, I begin telling myself that I will take that challenge on and not let up until I'm on top and I have tried and succeeded. That's how I came to clicking "submit" on my business license application at 1:34 in the morning and spending $20 to do so, not to mention the $200 LLC filing fee to get the official UBI number to therefore use to completely fill out the business license application. Yea, it's not fun stuff, guys.
But, I did it. And I'm here. I've officially started a business that is on its way up in the world. Disclaimer: it was not easy. I honestly do not think I can put a concrete number on the amount of hours spent researching "how to...." on Google this past year, trying to get my business up and running. Never having studied business....sales....marketing...graphic design...social media strategies...bookkeeping...accounting...(the list continues, folks), I was starting in-the-dark in a LOT of areas.
Since I was a novice in so many fields, I decided to optimize my one sure-fire strength: relationship-building. And that skill, mixed with persistence and optimism, transformed Pacific Engagements from being a quiet, newborn online presence to a now-known, respected business among the Seattle wedding community. Through all of those days and nights of being alone with my thoughts and thinking negative things about where I was at with my business, I kept one thing consistent. Just like Pacific Engagements' mission,
"Our mission is to always perform excellent customer service through quality custom design, thorough communication, and genuine kindness."
- Pacific Engagements
I truly believe it is important to treat each individual I encounter with kindness and warmth, and immediately begin a relationship starting with trust. Over these past few months, I have gotten the chance to work with so many amazing businesses and clients who reciprocated those values, and it's because of them that I am still standing. It's true that little actions go long ways and make great impacts on others. So thank you to those of you out there who have given me the pleasure of enjoying a cup of coffee with you in a little Seattle coffee shop, or who have introduced themselves to me at networking events or wedding shows, and even those of you who have hugged me after knowing me for only an hour or so, and taken the time and effort to tell me that you personally believe I am doing a great job. All of these little things are so special to me and hit home every time. I am looking forward to another year filled with getting to know you all better, and building even more relationships and friendships along the way.
Enjoy the last few days of the year and cheers to 2018 and to many more amazing memories to create!
